7 Space Saving Tips for your Small Business
Written by Daniel Stevens
It’s tough enough running your business as it is: payroll, taxes, leasing a retail or warehouse space, etc… We know the price of a square foot isn’t what it used to be. So here are 7 helpful tips for your small business to grow without busting down the walls or costing you a fortune.
- Creative Shelving
Square footage is expensive so use the vertical capital in that square foot. Get creative with your shelving. If you are just saving space for your home office or your maximizing your store front, creative shelving is key. And if this is your store front stick with your theme. Hipster-ish stores can use old wooden boxes on their sides while contemporary looks can stick with more Ikea-like design.
2. Rollout Tables
Try to get your hands on as many wheels as you can (with stoppers of course). Desktops that roll out from under your desk are great space savers. Start to think of Russian dolls when you’re out buying for your office, anything that can fit inside another with practical application can save a head ache in the future.
3. Chalkboard Wall
Or cork-board, or a white wall. This isn’t just a great space saving tip for any business, large or small, but for any room of any business. It could be used as an accent wall for your customers to see, or in your office to save
space while monitoring large tasks up on the board.
4. Limit Inventory
Inventory is always difficult to manage. If you absolutely need it in your office than get creative with the other tips. Here you have to redefine what is essential. Many companies offer services that are easy on your wallet and offer solutions to your space saving needs. URstore.ca gets rid of your teams apparel inventory. They keep all the shirts and hoodies and all your spirit wear at their warehouse so you don’t have to keep it in your closet. If you have boxes of company shirts laying around consider using URstore and use that space for productivity instead of wasting it.
- Bookcases as Dividers
Sectioning off areas of a small area is challenging, but tall open book cases can be an acceptable way to divide the space well especially if you have products to display. It also doesn’t last forever and you can change the layout of your space until you’ve found the best design.
- Multi-purpose Monitor
If your office has to have a television in it (which we all know isn’t great for productivity) have it double as your computer monitor. This way you limit your television time and you also save the space on your wall or desk.
- Think Vertical
Like we said about shelving, the square footage is too expensive to not use all the vertical space. See if you can mount things you need on your wall. Light fixtures and floating shelves can solve many space saving issues.
